March 23, 2022 – Volunteers for Relay For Life of Lee County will meet Thursday, March 24, and anyone interested in learning about relay, as well as volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, are encouraged to attend.

The 5 p.m. meeting will be held at Opelika’s Public Library, 1100 Glenn Street.

“We’re a group of dedicated people whose lives have been changed by cancer, and we’re working to do something about it,” said Randy Causey, who along with his wife, Debra, co-chair the 2022 Lee County Relay For Life.

The theme of this year’s relay is “Roaring Back” because the last two years we haven’t been able to have a full relay, he added. “We want to remind everyone that cancer hasn’t stopped one day in the last two years, and we’re roaring back.”

Committee meetings are a great time to learn about Relay, sign up a team or have businesses commit to a partnership. “We encourage anyone who has interest in learning more to come to our meeting,” he said.

Relay For Life for Lee County will be held Friday, April 29, around the Fountain at the Lee County Courthouse in downtown Opelika. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with the survivor lap to honor those fighting cancer. Relay teams and community residents will enjoy a number of activities as they walk laps in honor and memory of those fighting cancer. A luminaria walk, lighted candles surrounding the fountain, will memorialize those who have not survived.

Future planned meetings are set for April 11 and April 21 before the actual Relay on April 29.
