AO Discover!, East Alabama’s first hands-on science museum, is launching a new campaign to support local businesses during these times of economic hardship. The DISCOVER Local campaign was designed to introduce families to local businesses through tutorial-style videos that showcase their daily operations and connect them to various aspects of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
The campaign will feature several themes beginning with “DISCOVER Local: Let’s Get Cooking with STEM!” This inaugural series will highlight restaurants throughout Auburn and Opelika that are currently operating for delivery and/or carry out.
“AO Discover! is here to support the families of East Alabama and promote STEM education now to foster opportunities in the future,” said Katie Murrah, AO Discover! CEO and director. “We can’t wait to learn from our favorite local chefs, baristas and bakers and support their businesses in the process.” This series will begin with a restaurant’s chef, barista, etc. providing a demonstration related to that particular business, such as preparing a signature menu item to showing off a specific cooking technique or explaining how and where they source their food. The AO DISCOVER! team will then link the demonstration to STEM learning and problem-solving skills. The video will also offer a brief explanation on how to order from the restaurant with links to the appropriate ordering outlets provided in the description.

"It’s going to be a great reminder of the wonderful options we have in our small community while adding a fun, educational component. I am sure we will all be surprised how
many STEM elements exist in the kitchen and beyond!”
The campaign will highlight and promote a different business each week with a behind-the-scenes video. The videos will be released via AO Discover!’s Instagram TV and Facebook newsfeed. The first series is slated to begin in May, with future series incorporating retail, local manufacturers, non-profits and more.
